like the title of this page sugguests, i mainly collect vinyl records... but i've also got a good number of cassette tapes and compact discs! my methodology for collecting is either to pick up things from artists i know to be good and/or that i like, or to just grab things that pique my interest. this can be based off of cover art, artist name, genre, style. anything and everything, really. i know it's bizzare, but i've found some of my favorite albums this way... don't knock it 'til you've tried it!
i got my first records in 2022, but didn't start seriously collecting records until my aunt gave me her collection in 2024. this doubled the number of records i owned; with the size increase i saw it fit to begin logging what i owned, and shortly after i signed up for discogs. i really enjoyed the process of looking up the different variants and pressings, and thus began to buy more records to keep logging... eventually i started picking up cds and cassettes as well. (my aunt came in clutch once again, as she kick-started my cassette collection and gave me some cds as well). now i've got a huge backlog of things that need to be detagged and put into discogs... which i'll get to eventually.
as said on my about page, my music taste is an odd variety of things (though most of those things tend to come from between the 80s and 90s). new wave is probably one of my all-time favorite genres, though i also enjoy my fair share of the many kinds of rock and indie. prog, alt and glam rock are my personal favorite subgenres within rock, though pop rock is a little guilty pleasure of mine. city pop can be found in my listening history sometimes, along with yacht rock and electronic music... but you didn't hear that from me!
